How to set up an IRS online account with ID.me on desktop computer

  1. Go to irs.gov
  2. Select View Your Account
  3. Select Log in to your online account (even if you don’t have one yet)
  4. Select Create a new account in ID.me
  5. Enter your email address
  6. Enter a password you make up and confirm such (write this down for reminder)
  7. Open your email account. You will receive a 6 digit code to enter into ID.me.
  8. Enter your phone number into ID.me. You will receive a 6 digit code to enter into ID.me.
  9. You will need to upload a photo of either your driver’s license (front & back) , a passport or a passport
    card.

    • To do this, take pictures of your DL (front and then back)
    • Select these pictures and email them to yourself
    • Open your email and download/save pictures
  10. In ID.me click select photo to upload for the DL(front) picture
  11. In ID.me click select photo to upload for the DL(back) picture
  12. ID.me wants a selfie video of your face. You will verify your phone number and ID.me will send a link in a text message on your phone. Click on this link so application opens. Follow instructions. This is a very close up selfie scan.
  13. Enter your social security number inot ID.me
  14. Verify your name, address, date of birth…on ID.me
  15. You should be allowed access into your IRS online account
  16. Done!!

How to set up an IRS online account with ID.me on mobile device

  1. Go to irs.gov
  2. Select View Your Account
  3. Select Log in to your online account (even if you don’t have one yet)
  4. Select Create a new account in ID.me
  5. Enter your email address
  6. Enter a password you make up and confirm such (write this down for reminder)
  7. Open your email account and click the confirm email button within the email
  8. Return to the Id.me screen
  9. Enter your phone number into ID.me. You will receive a 6 digit code to enter into ID.me.
  10. You will need to upload a photo of either your driver’s license (front & back) , a passport or a passport
    card.

    • To do this:
    • *Select which documents you wish to upload, then press start/select
    • *Agree to the terms and conditions
    • *If you have previously taken a picture of your document, select choose image. If you would like to take the photo now, select take image.
    • *To take image, a link will be texted to you. Open the link and follow the directions (you will need to ALLOW Id.me to access your camera.
    • *You will align your document in the red box until the box turns green. Once the box has turned green, you will need to hold it there for a second until the box goes away.
  11. ID.me wants a selfie video of your face. You will verify your phone number and ID.me will send a link in a text message on your phone. Click on this link so application opens. Follow instructions. This is a very close up selfie scan.
  12. Enter your social security number in to ID.me
  13. Go back to original Id.me screen
  14. Verify your name, address, date of birth…on ID.me
  15. You should be allowed access into your IRS online account
  16. Done!!
